Instead of focusing on one story, write one story that could incorporate bits off all stories.
When reading the story, I kept imagining the story being narrated to me.
Possibly tell the story from Alice's point of view, in 1st person.
Having Alice herself tell the story would be cool. Maybe Alice grew old and is now suffering dementia and is in a nursing home.
or
Alice could have been in a car wreck, the wreck caused her to go into coma.
Everything that happened in the book could be what Alice dreamt while in the coma.
